December 27, 2004

This a very urgent appeal sent out to all Sri Lankans, Americans and
other friends of Sri Lanka around the world - please, for immediate and
urgent help!

Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Vihara (Temple in Los Angeles) and the Sri
Lankan Buddhist Sangha Council of the United States & Canada request
your generous assistance for the stricken people affected by this
monumental disaster! It's devastating!

Yesterday's massive tsunamis have left coastal areas of Sri Lanka in a
state of devastation and shock. Reports today say that there are over
20,000 people who have died and over a million have been left homeless
and displaced.

The Sri Lankan Buddhist Sangha Council of the United States/Canada is
undertaking a two-fold plan to aid the victims of this disaster:
1) We will immediately send funds for the additional purchase of safe
food and medicine.
2) We will then directly oversee the distribution of funds for the
rebuilding process. We recommend that you send your monetary
contributions to Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Vihara (or any Sri Lankan
temple of your choice in the United States) so that we can send your
contribution to Sri Lanka.

Please do not send clothes or any other items due to transportation
difficulties and costs. We can purchase needed items in Sri Lanka
which will also benefit the local economy there. Please make your
checks payable to the Sri Lanka Tsunami Relief Fund and mail to:

Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Vihara,
1847 Crenshaw Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90019
Or, to transfer funds please send to Bank of America
#122000661-0357105557

Sincerely yours,

Venerable (Rev.) Walpola Piyananda
President & Abbot - Dharma Vijaya Buddhist Vihara
President - Sri Lankan Buddhist Sangha Council of the
United States & Canada

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi every one,

I presume that some of you might remember Ven. Piyananda. He is a Sri
Lankan monk and President of Southern California Sangha Council. The
late Ven. Dr. Ratana and Ven Piyananda helped us a lot when we applied
CUP for the Azusa monastery in Yorba Linda and at Chino. I would
appreciate if you all can send donations to him for the Sri Lankan
victims. I will be leaving for India tomorrow morning and will be back
on Feb. 6, 2005.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all.

With Boundless Metta,
Tin Htoon

I am sure you are all saddened by the terrible disasters happening
due to the Tsunami. Sae Taw Win II is going to be listed in the local
paper, the Press Democrat, as one of the organizations that is sending
money to Sri Lanka.

If you would like to send donations we are starting to accept them.
Send checks to:

Sae Taw Win 2
Attn: Sri Lanka Relief Fund
9769 Bower St.
Sebastopol, CA 95472

Please also write Sri Lanka Relief Fund in the memo of the check.
If you’d like to use a credit card you can visit our website at
www.saetawwin2.org and press the donation button on the homepage.

The organization in Sri Lanka that we are supporting is called
Sarvodaya. Why send money to Sarvodaya? Dr. Ariyaratne is a close
friend of mine for nearly 20 years and founder of Sarvodaya Project in
Sri Lanka. He has headed rural development projects in 13,000 villages
there over the period of 45 years. Through him I know that the funds
will actually be spent in the most needy areas and will not fall
through the cracks.

As part of an interfaith peace effort, the funds sent to the center
will be channeled by Sarvodaya to the Hindu Tamil areas of Sri Lanka,
which are among the hardest hit.

The Sarvodaya website is: http://www.sarvodaya.org/ if you wish to
check out the organization.

Metta,
[Dr. Daw] Thynn [Thynn]
[spouse of Dr. San Lin (Civil)

That's all for now.
