Saya U Kyaw Thein (Civil)'s health

Ko Than Win, Dr. KNNT, Ko Aung Kyaw Thaike

excerpts from RIT Burma Yahoo group

=====================================================================

27 Jul 2004

Dear Ko AKT,

He (Saya U Kyaw Thein) was totally unconscious when he was admitted to

the THU KHA Clinic. However, he is recovering gradually. Now, it has

been about 10 days and he can open his eye and a little bit, can move

his hands and seems to be responding with the guests. I have arranged

150000 Kyats of donation on behalf of 1987 and 1991 B.E (civil).

As far as I know, he needs to change the blood totally. If he has to do

it, it is necessary to move him to YGH. I will let you know if I know

more about his health. I will go to that clinic today again. Of course,

I appreciate if you can arrange to collect the donations from our

friends over there. It is obvious that he is needing our assistance.

With best regards,

Than Win

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Ko [Aung Kyaw] Thaike,

Please collect 100,000 Kyats donation (one hundred thousand kyat only)

from WRTC office in Yangon. Contact Daw Shwe Shwe Sein Latt. WRTC

office address is Building 6, Room (16), Myakhantha Housing, 2 quarter,

Kamayut T/S. Please tell Ma Ma Sein and Saya U Kyaw Thein that I will

visit them in December 2004.

Thank you,

Dr. Khin Ni Ni Thein

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sayama DKNNT

I will arrange to collect your donation in YGN. I had informed to Ko

Myint Aung who is conducting for collection of donation here and always

contacts with Saya Dr Soe Thein.

I will also send email to Dr Soe Thein for your donation to be

collected. If I got the confirmed information for collection, I will

inform you asap.

=====================================================================

I couldn't be a silent reader regarding Saya Gyi U Sein Shan, because I

had a fight with another guy in his mathematic class. That was my first

fourth year at Chemical Engineering. He taught us Mathematics, when I

have to come to solve the problems "THE LAPLACE TRANSFORM", I always

remember the teacher who taught us mathematics. My special thank go to

Daw San San Mya (EC 72) Singapore, who is organising for Saya Gyi U

Sein Shan medical fund and I am glad that I have the chance to send

across my part contribution.

Saya U Sein Shan's health

by Daniel Tint Lwin (Mech 69)

=====================================================================

Just to inform you that recently Saya U Sein Shan had a ballooning

and the insertion of 2 stents, one for the vein to the brain and

another for the one going to the heart, at Bumrungred Hospital in

Bangkok. He is recoverying from his operation at the time I talked to

his wife on 26 Jul at about 10pm. I understand that Ko Toe is taking

care of him in Bangkok. Before going to Bangkok Saya Gyi was having

difficulty walking because of low blood flow to his brain.

We hope and pray for his speedy recovery.

Report (dated Wednesday, 21 July 2004)

Saya U Kyaw Thein was hospitalised on the night of Sunday, 18 July

2004, and is in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Thu-Kha-Kabar Clinic.

He is still in unconscious state as of today (21 July 2004). His wife

Daw Mi Mi Sein, daughter Aye Aye and elder son Tay Zar are around and

the younger son, Zay Yar, who is working in Singapore is arriving

Myanmar today (21 July 2004). Thu-Kha-Kabar Clinic is located between

Prome Road and Insein Road around San-Yeik Nyein Bus Stop. Please pray

hard for Sayagyi U Kyaw Thein to recover quickly.

As the cost of the hospitalisation, especially intensive care unit,

is very high, I would like to request our alumni to initiate in groups

and collect some medical fund for Sayagyi U Kyaw Thein. We have started

collecting medical fund locally also. You can send the list and fund to

me. My email, contact phone no and home address is given below. I will

update the condition of Sayagyi U Kyaw Thein daily.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Report (dated Thursday, 22 July 2004)

As of today, Saya's condition is improving a lot. On 20 Jul 2004, he is

virtually unconscious. On 21 Jul 2004, he could open the eye only.

Today, 22 Jul 2004, He not only opened his eye he could also move some

of his body parts. I hope that he will be recovering slowly.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

In early May, Saya U Kyaw Thein was first hospitalised for about a

week in a private hospital near Institute of Veternary, Insein. His

recovery was slow since then. He did not recover fully. He stopped all

his regular activities such as attending meetings etc.

Hi All,

Just to make all of you aware of two things.

1. Be aware of "phising", some of you must have received it before,

this is the newest and most dangerous form of PERSONAL THEFT, and DO

NOT respond to any of the request. The request is disguised as an email

from your financial institution, and would request you to update your

account/password. IT ALWAYS is not from your financial institution but

it looks very much legitimate. NEVER EVER RESPOND TO SUCH MESSAGES. You

should forward the messages to the respective institution's fraud

group, if you could.

2. Please update your computer with the newest patches,

ms04-022

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS04-022.mspx,

ms04-023

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS04-023.mspx

and ms04-024

IMMEDIATELY.

Better process is to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com,

and click on the "Scan for updates". You can pick and choose the

updates, as they are called patches, but it is recommended you select

all of them if possible.

======================================================================

Dear Sayas and Colleagues,

A quick update.

Career Seminar

=====================================================================

20+ youths (mostly grads or in their final semesters/quarters)

attended the "Town Hall Meeting" on "Career Advice" conducted by BAPS

with the help of distinguished guests: Saya U Aung Khin (Mech, Patron,

RIT Alumni International), Saya Chris Lee (Elec, President of BASES),

Saya Allen Htay (Civil, President, RIT Alumni International), ...

The panelists also include Saya U Nyo Win (Mech, Past President,

BAPS), Ko Benny Tan (Mech, Past President, BAPS), Ko Maurice Chee

(Mech, President, BAPS), Saya Ko Thein Aung (Met), Daniel Maung (son of

Saya Mao Toon Siong (Mech), co-webmaster, BAPS), Jonathan Shu (son of

Ko Aung Khin (James, Mech), co-webmaster, BAPS), Ricky Chen (secretary,

BAPS), ...

The session which lasted approximately 3 hours include: introduction

of the panelists and attendees, tips on different phases of job

hunting, importance of internships, networking, voice training,

personalization of reusmes, short but effective cover letters, follow

up of resume submissions, career fairs & open shops, emphasizing one's

strengths rather than shortcomings, answering questions with poise and

confidence, how/when to smile or to be serious, anecdotes, ...

Ko Maurice Chee has once again demonstrated his culinary skills.

Several people proposed Ko Maurice to be "Head Chef" in addition to

being President of BAPS, and Treasurer/Financial Controller of RIT

Alumni International.

=====================================================================

Short Notes

=====================================================================

Ma Pam, spouse of Saya Chris Lee, offered sa-pa-lin (lemon grass) to

several sayas and alums. Ko Maurice [jokingly] said: "Ma Pam is an

expert in win-ka-woat-ti (indirect way of saying). She is hinting

people who receive the sa-pa-lin to cook mohinga [for her]."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Saya Mao Toon Siong won his first Burma Table Tennis Championship in

1954. The Inter-Varsity Team events, however, were not a shoo in

despite being a national star. [One reason is the use of non-standard

rackets in local tournaments.]

In one match, the score was tied at 2-2. Saya was trailing 10-20 in

the final decisive game. He managed to win 22-20. That was a "turning

point" which boosted his confidence and the belief that "good things

can happen at any moment".

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Saya U Aung Khin is a man of few words. When we mentioned the good

things that happened after each of his visits to the Bay Area, Saya

said, "a critical mass already existed [and were simply waiting for his

visits] for the good things to happen".

======================================================================

That's all for now.

Update (July 9, 2004)

======================================================================

Dear Sayas and Colleagues,

20+ alums [and some spouses] attended the mini-reunion dinner in

honor of Saya U Aung Khin (Mech), who is visiting the Bay Area. They

include:

Saya U San Tun (Mech), currently host of Saya U Aung Khin => about

to welcome a daughter-in-law

Saya Mao Toon Siong (Mech), former Burma table tennis champion =>

looks youthful thanks to jogging, table tennis, ...

Saya U Kyaw Myint (Mech), Beijing [doing assignments after his

regular stint with UNESCO projects there]

Saya Chris Lee (Elect), President of BASES, Southern California =>

David Tun Tin, suffering from "irregular" and "skipped" heartbeats,

signed VP Saya Chris Lee to take over the BASES helm

U Tin Hlaing (ChE 65, retired in Feb, 2004 from Singapore Poly) =>

has new e-mail address

Saya U Maung Maung (George Chan, ChE)

Saya Ko Thein Aung (Met) & San San Nyunt (Sandra, Mech)

Ko Benny Tan (Mech), past President, BAPS

Ko Maurice Chee (Mech), current President, BAPS

Ko Walter Tan (Mech)

Ko Aung Thein (John Yeo, Mech)

Ko Myint Thein (Ba Thein, Mech), now doctor in Civil => "Pha ta

baing nga ta baing"

Ko Myint Ngwe (Met)

Ko Aung Chein (Mech 72), currently in Southern California [after

several UN postings in Asia for the past decade or so]

...

After one of Saya U Aung Khin's visit to the Bay Area, BEA and

BASTS merged to become BAPS. After another visit, the Northern

California alums and the Southern California alums agreed to work for

the first RIT Grand Reunion and Saya Pu Zaw Pwe. Based on past history,

something good should happen to the Bay Area Alumni organization and

its members.
