Burmese fonts history brief can be seen by  Devroye, Canada website.

Most Burmese fonts are using Olympia Burmese Typewriter format. It is  Mr.Martin Tytell hardwork for a professor Dvorak , University of Washington. On the Burmese typewriter he put a letter on upside down. Years later, after he had discovered his error, he told the language professor he had worked with that he would fix that letter on the professor's Burmese typewriter. The professor said not to bother; in the intervening years, as a result of typewriters copied from Martin's original, that upside-down letter had been accepted in Burma as proper typewriter style.

Comment of a Burmese Computer Professional
Myanmar Code Point is already standardized under ISO 10646 and UNICODE. The problem is all font developers still do not follow the standard code point (table). That creates the compatibility problem. If we think about different English fonts are using different code point, we could understand what is happening in Myanmar Fonts. For example, "Time" font uses "60" for character "A"; dose not follow ASCII table code point.  And "Arial" font uses "65" for character 'A"; follow ASCII table. Obviously the text by TIME font and Arial font could not convertible. This is not the standard issue.  Standard is already there; ISO10646. This is implementation issue. Only after settling this stand code point issue, we could go for application like Microsoft office.
