ICDB Action Alert:
ICDB requests fellow Burma's nationals to call U.N.
"Free Aung San Suu Kyi and Support N.L.D"
On Feb. 17, 2005, without including
our national leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her 1990 election winning party National
League for Democracy (NLD), the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) will resume the
"National Convention" as one of the junta's road map steps. According to their
"7-step Road Map", they are to hold the National Convention, draft a new
constitution, adopt the constitution through referendum, hold an election, and form the
government. The regime is well on its way to forcibly legitimize its illegal rule for more
than four decades.
Moreover, the NLD urged the SPDC to have a meaningful dialogue between December 2, 2004
and January 4, 2005. Apparently, SPDC neither cooperated nor responded to the NLD's
request.
Furthermore, Burma is facing dictators' serious threats, as the nation's leader Daw Aung
San Suu Kyi is still under house arrest, more ethnic leaders are being detained as we
write this action call, and her 50 million people are being forced to accept the regime's
so-called "Road Map" as a legal procedure toward democracy.
Therefore, in solidarity, the International Campaign for Democracy in Burma (ICDB)
requests you, especially Burma's nationals, to ask the United Nations (UN) to increase its
effort to "free Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and support NLD" on Tuesday, Feb.
15, 2005. Furthermore, as an immediate step, ask the UN to release firm request seeking
the release of 1991 Nobel laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her colleague U Tin Oo.
Date to call U.N and request to help "free Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and support
N.L.D":

[ICDB is a grassroots working committee of Burmese
pro-democracy groups from around the world. It was founded at the "Road Map for
Democracy in Burma Conference" on October 11-12th, 2003 at Fort Wayne, Indiana, the
worlds largest gathering of Burmese democracy activists-in-exile. ICDB is authorized
by the conference to speak publicly and organize international support for Aung San Suu
Kyi and freedom in Burma under the leadership of the National Council of Union of Burma
(NCUB) and the National Coalition Government of Union of Burma (NCGUB). |
